Culture has changed over the past few decades. Half a century ago, not many folks would have opted to have dogs or cats in their homes as pets. Today, most people prefer to keep one or more four-pawed buddies to cuddle up with every evening.   So when you’re off to work, it’s quite a pity to have to leave your little buddy home alone all day. On the other hand, you may be concerned about how your precious pet would be treated at a doggy daycare facility - All valid concerns for a loving pet-owner. We have some tips on how you can choose the best caregiver for your buddies.   ? Look for accreditations and licenses: Facilities that are accredited by authorities on pet care and business such as the IBPSA (International Boarding and Pet Services Association), CCAC (Canadian Council on Animal Care), the CVMA (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association), Good Animal Practice (GAP), the AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association), the BBB (Better Business Bureau), etc., are bound to have good standards of pet care compared to one that does not have any accreditations. Furthermore, full time staff with certifications such as the Animal sciences certificate, Dog Obedience, Natural health care for pets, Pet grooming certificate, etc., ensure that the dogs will be treated well and cared for appropriately.   ? Cleanliness: Visit a few certified facilities and ask for a tour. If the place is kept clean despite a full day’s work in caring for dogs, you can be sure that your pet will be quite healthy and happy in that environment.   ? Dog Temperament evaluations: Though most dogs love to socialize, some like to keep to themselves for most of the day. Such doggy buddies may find a noisy daycare quite disconcerting. So, if the facility asks you to bring your buddy over for an interview before reserving a spot for him, you’re on the right track. Such facilities will usually have a separate space provided for dogs who like to keep to themselves and play away from other dogs. They will also have separate areas for play, rest and even separate areas for large and small dogs.   ? Schedule: Just like a children’s daycare facility, a good doggy daycare must have a regular schedule every day. This helps puts your pets at ease, especially when they know what’s coming up next. An ideal schedule would be, rest-time, play, eat and drink time, grooming, resting time. So, by the time you’re back, your buddy is relaxed and all set to enjoy a nice evening with you.   ? Carer to dog ratio: Check with the facility on how many staff are around each day and how many dogs each staff manages. According to the ASPCA (American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) guidelines, the ideal ratio would be no more than 15 dogs for each staff member. The lower the ratio the better.   Go ahead and find that perfect doggy daycare!   For more information about Dog Daycare Edmonton and Dog Kennels Edmonton Please visit : Club Mead Pet Resort.
