A video gaming console is specifically designed to play video games. The launch of Microsoft Xbox One, Sony PS4 and other gaming consoles has been proved as a boon for the video game lovers. Doesn’t matter, which gaming console you use, you need a passcode as well two-factor authentication. Adding of passcode as well as two-factor authentication both can be done from the console or through the web browser. If you don’t do these steps, your account and the personal information will be vulnerable to the hackers’ attacks.

Nintendo Switch

To enable this security feature (passcode and two-factor authentication) to your Nintendo account, you need to follow these steps:

1.       Open the web browser

2.       Sign in to your Nintendo account with the registered ID

3.       Now, choose your icon followed by the Settings

4.       Click “Sign In & Security Settings”

5.       Scroll down to locate the “2 Step Verification Settings” option

For scanning the Nintendo’s QR code and storing your two-factor authentication settings on your mobile device, you will require an additional authentication application, such as Cathy or Google Authenticator. Once you enable the security setting, check your registered email ID for the verification code. This code will be asked during the verification process.

Now, open the authenticator application on your smartphone, scan the QR code and provide the series of verification numbers to accomplish this process. You will now see a series of backup codes; store these codes at a secure place, such as password manager. This would help you recover the password in case you switch to a new smartphone and forget to transfer your authenticator.

Sony PlayStation 4

To implement the security in Sony PS4, you need to follow these steps:

1.       Log in to your PlayStation account, choose your profile picture

2.       Choose Account Settings

3.       Visit Security on the Account Management page

4.       Now, choose the two-step verification option

5.       Enter your phone number to link it with your account

6.       It will then need a verification passcode

7.       Check your inbox for the text message (required if you logging in from any unrecognized device)

For more security, you can also add a password to your PS4. This will also restrict unauthorized people from logging in to your account. To do so, follow these steps:

1.       Visit Settings on your PS4

2.       Now, choose Login Settings, uncheck “Log in to PS4 Automatically”

3.       Now, choose Passcode Management

4.       Now, you can use the buttons on your Dual Shock 4 controller to enter the password

5.       Enter the password

6.       Your PS4 is all secured!

Microsoft Xbox One

Adding a passkey to your console will protect it from your naughty kids trying to change the parental control settings. This will also prevent the unauthorized purchases. To add the passcode, follow these steps:

1.       Open the guide by clicking over the Xbox logo

2.       Go to the Settings and choose All Settings followed by Account

3.       Now, click Sign in, security and passkey

4.       Provide the passkey by using the Xbox One Controller buttons

5.       Your gaming console is all protected

Like the Xbox One protection, you should also protect your Microsoft account to avoid stealing of your personal information. For this, you can add two-factor authentication to the account associated with your gaming console. The best part of adding the security passkey is that it doesn’t ask you to follow a complex set of instructions. Simply, follow some easy steps mentioned below:

1.       Visit Xbox.com (or Microsoft.com)

2.       Sign in to your account

3.       Choose your user icon

4.       Now, click View Microsoft Account

5.       Go to the menu bar and choose Security

6.       Now hit “More security options” below the Security Basics section

7.       From here, you can enable two-factor authentication using the popular apps, like Google Authenticator and Kathy
