Opulent hotels, first-class flight and an air of grandeur in the surrounding! All this and more is what defines a luxury holiday usually! But for an avid traveler who has gone around the world and subconsciously understood travelers, luxury traveling is complex.

Based on the generation you belong to, the needs, desires and experience one seeks is different. However, many overlap, the categorization of six types will make you realize the kind of luxury traveler you are or want to be.

While the cookie cutter approach is not a part of their itinerary, the millennials seek personal growth, authenticity and exclusivity. Being tech savvy, they do not depend on the numerous travel companies. The self planned holiday includes the grand aesthetics of a Michelin starred restaurant to the delicious street food.  The experimenter believes in substance with style.

Going by the thought, the more expensive the better, a traditionalist moves from country to country in style. From white-glove service to five-star resorts and private jets, great emphasis is given on the appearance of the experience. An experience full of ostentatious display of wealth; anything less is unacceptable.

A dreamer is the one who never leaves his house and dreams of luxurious spots by browsing on social media and magazines. The one that dreams to have a holiday but cannot afford or fear  the unknown, but builds castles and enjoys the private pools and spas in their home sweet home.

Splurging on one luxury holiday after months of saving money is the misfit. Iconic hotels to first-class flights and more, the misfit looks for deals that can get the most out of a small budget. Oscillating between luxury and budget worlds, the misfit is in the gray zone. While they feel left out, they are neither a budget traveler nor a luxury traveler.

Budget-friendly on the surface but champagne shines from the bottom inadvertently. Scoffing at the extravagance but indulging in it secretly, are the traits of a covert. Paying heed to the society’s perceptions and requiring acceptance at every step, the cat and rat game is played often. Embracing luxury and publicly being a critique of luxury as a wasteful abundance will go on forever.
