To provide the benefits for women belong to BPL (below Poverty Line), the government of India has announced a scheme under which the government will provide a free LPG gas connection to the women household of BPL families.
The scheme was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and will be launched on 1 May 2016 at Ballia in Uttar Pradesh and on May 15, the PM will launch this scheme in Dahod in Gujarat. The name of the scheme is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The meaning of Ujjwala in English is brightness and the scheme meant for the BPL families. The scheme will definitely brighten the future of BPL women.
The amount for implementing the scheme is saved from the people who have given-up their subsidy of LPG gas connection. Around 1.33 crore people have given-up their subsidy and the government is utilizing this amount by providing the free LPG gas connection to the women of BPL families. The step is taken by the government to ensure the empowerment of women of BPL families.
According to the information, every year, around 5 lakh people died due to hearth disease and pulmonary diseases and that it the reason the government found need to launched this scheme. The main cause of these kind of diseases are indoor population and the use of bad fuels and Chulhas for cooking meal.
